Horrible wake-up call for Liberty student Date published: 5/2/2009
BY KEITH EPPS A Liberty University student got some bad news yesterday in his dorm room. He is the latest person caught in a Stafford County detective's trap for suspected Internet predators. Jamison Dean Gibbs, 22, of Acworth, Ga., was arrested at the school yesterday morning by state police special agents. He is charged with attempting to take indecent liberties with a child and using an electronic device to solicit a juvenile. The "juvenile" in this case is Stafford Detective Darryl Wells. Wells is frequently online attracting sexual predators by pretending to be a 13-year-old child. Investigations involving Wells have resulted in Stafford charges for men all over the country and in Canada. Sheriff's spokesman Bill Kennedy said Wells was portraying a 13-year-old girl from the Fredericksburg area when he made contact with Gibbs in October. Kennedy said Gibbs initially asked for "cybersex," then gradually got more and more graphic as the months went on. Wells continued chatting with Gibbs until the end of March. Kennedy said Gibbs several times tried to set up meetings with the "girl." Gibbs was jailed in the Lynchburg area under no bond pending transfer to Stafford. Keith Epps: 540/374-5404
i am really surprised that he was involved in this. He was a guy that lived on the hall above me, he seemed pretty cool.. he wanted to go into the FBI but i guess he cant now. it just makes me feel really bad for him, but he deserves whatever he gets. how can you be that stupid? I mean like enough to do something like that to a 13 year old "girl"
Gay rights and pedophile rights could not be further apart! In my opinion, pedophiles should not even have rights. PLEASE think before you type.
I think better parenting and more control over online activity of minors would help solve this problem. If there aren't minors online participating in sexual conversations, then it would make it harder for pedophiles to solicit them. The adult predators involved here are totally to blame, but the minors are not innocent if they are asking for it!
detective who caught this fool? No matter who it was, it was a law enforcement officer doing his job and that being protecting the children of our community from sexual preditors. If that is a bad thing then in your opinion would be a good thing?
Are you joking? How are pedophiles and homosexuals even remotely comparable?
