DAY AT THE FAIR TURNS UPSIDE DOWN AS COASTER FREEZES
Star Search: Day at the fair turns upside down as coaster freezes

Date published: 5/5/2009

DO YOU LOVE roller coasters? Do you like the breeze running through your hair, the excitement you have while waiting in line, yelling when you're going down a big hill?

How about hanging upside down on one stuck right in the middle of a loop? Well, it happened to me a couple years ago, and it's not pleasant. We were at the county fair for the Fourth of July.

The fair started around 11 and ended at 9 with fireworks. We have always gone to the fair, unless we weren't in town. It's a family tradition.

My parents, my two sisters, Avery and Leah (6-year-old twins), and I woke up early to get everything loaded up in the car, so we could get there on time.

We were all excited for the popcorn, funnel cakes, fun rides, the petting zoo and face painting. There was so much to look forward to.

Even though it was in the high 90s, everyone in the county was there.

We planned to leave around 10, but then Avery needed to go to the bathroom. (Every time we get in the car she has to go. It's really annoying.) Then my dad forgot to grab the camera, so he had to go back and get it.

Then Leah needed her blanket, even though the car was like a sauna, but that's Leah for you, totally unpredictable. So we ended up leaving at 10:30. It was an hour's drive.

We finally got there at 11:30. The first thing Leah and Avery wanted to do was get their faces painted. So my mom stayed with them while my dad and I went to the roller coasters.

I was so psyched. I hadn't reached the height limit last year, so I couldn't ride many of them. There was a super-long line for the new one, but I didn't care.

My dad isn't a very patient man, so we went to go buy a couple funnel cakes and sodas and took them back to my mom. It was getting to be lunch time, but my parents wanted to hold off eating until we rode the rides because Leah has a weak stomach, even though she's too short for most of the rides.
