UMW exceeds Centennial Campaign fundraising goal more than a month ahead of schedule

UMW campaign tops its $75 million goal

The University of Mary Washington has about a month left in its Centennial Campaign but has already exceeded fundraising goals by $700,000, according to a press release.

UMW has raised $75.7 million during the campaign, which started in 2000 and ends June 30. UMW originally hoped to raise $40 million but eventually increased its goal to $75 million.

The money raised includes $32.3 million in new endowments, $25.6 million for capital projects and $17.8 million for an unrestricted fund.

The Centennial Campaign has received 18 gifts and pledges of $1 million or more, including money for the construction of the Jepson Alumni Executive Center.

Construction project causes road closure

Charlotte Street between Caroline and Princess Anne streets will be be closed daily through Saturday, according to a press release issued by Fredericksburg officials.

The road will be open to traffic during the evening.

The closure is due to sidewalk construction and the delivery of items to the hotel construction site at the corner of Caroline and Charlotte streets.

Motorists can take Wolfe Street if traveling from Princess Anne Street to Caroline Street, and George Street if traveling from Caroline Street to Princess Anne Street.
