Nancy L. Chinn

Nancy Louise Chinn, 59, of Waco, Texas, daughter of James T. and Louise Hawkins Chinn of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Nancy graduated in 1968 from James Monroe High School, earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at Radford University and completed her doctorate in modern American literature in 1982 at Florida State University.

Nancy taught American literature for more than 27 years in the Baylor University English Department. She leaves a legacy in the lives of the Baylor students, graduate and undergraduate.

Nancy is survived by her husband, David Longfellow; her son, Nathaniel; her parents; and sisters Margaret Hartsell of New Bern, N.C., Susan Busch of Richmond, and Annette Schaul of King George County, as well as their husbands and children.

Family visitation will be held Friday, May 22, at Lake Shore Baptist Church, Waco, with a memorial service planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 23, also at the church.

A Celebration of Life service will be held this summer in Fredericksburg.
