Two get prison in cocaine ring

Two men are convicted on cocaine distribution charges in Caroline County

Date published: 5/29/2009

BY PORTSIA SMITH

Two men were given prison sentences on drug charges in Caroline County Circuit Court this week.

Arthur Shannon Sizer, 31, of Ruther Glen pleaded guilty to three counts of distributing cocaine. He was sentenced Tuesday to 75 years, with all but 10 years suspended.

Prosecutor Glen Henkle, who will handle narcotics cases for the county, presented evidence that Sizer had distributed cocaine since March 2004. By 2008, Henkle said, Sizer was moving one kilo a month.

Sizer had made 400 cocaine sales in Caroline in 2008, according to Henkle's evidence.

Authorities considered Sizer to be a big-time drug dealer in the county and said he was at or near the top of a cocaine distribution ring with sources from New York to Richmond.

Next month, Sizer will face a judge in Caroline again on a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Kenneth Eugene Crutchfield of Woodford, who was said by authorities to be a lower-level dealer under Sizer, was given two life sentences with all but seven years suspended.

He was convicted of conspiring to distribute cocaine and distributing cocaine--his third offense.

Henkle is seeking to have Crutchfield's earlier suspended sentences revoked.

That many years for a drug crime. All states & Caroline County need to give Child Molestering Life in prison since they can't be rehabilitated. What ethnic group were these two men? We focus so much on crimes like these vs. looking out for our children against child molesters

Yup, I find it odd. I know it's a crime to sell coke, but look at the movies and TV shows (literally hundreds of examples) where the stars or other sympathetic and likeable characters snort and enjoy, and you wonder if the laws should somehow be changed to give a break to suppliers of the neverending demand, at least a little break. I mean, THERE'S NO answer to this. No "drug Czar " has ever achieved anything (except Bill Bennet got fatter), but the same old same old goes on.

Our legal system at work... (posted by remembercasey , May 29, 2009 4:13 pm)
They got more time than murderers!!! WTF is wrong with our judicial system???

Locking them up for good would eliminate the problem? (posted by FredNeck4Life , May 29, 2009 10:27 am)
Think about what you you just said? Locking them up for good would be a life sentence on the taxpayer...Lock'em up, makem pay the consequences, but life? I don't think so.

What? (posted by macaroni678 , May 29, 2009 10:22 am)
If they are locked away forever that means there will be more people in jail, which will still be using taxpayers money. Rehabilitation does work but after you get your first felony drug conviction that eliminates you from being eligible to get 80% of the few jobs that are out there, so what else is there to do but go back to selling drugs.

What do you think?
