Edgar C. Wimmer

Edgar C. "Butch" Wimmer, 74, of Spotsylvania County went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 31, 2009. Born in Roanoke, he was the son of the late Ruford H. and Mary Grace Wimmer. Butch moved to Fredericksburg in 1948 where he attended James Monroe and Spotsylvania high schools.

Upon graduating from Spotsylvania High School in 1952, he entered the U.S. Navy serving aboard the U.S.S. Midway and Chincoteague Air Station. He was a past master of Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge 4 in 1967.

In 1994 Butch, with God's help, realized a lifelong dream. By combining his oratory skill, personal charm and love for the city, he founded Trolley Tours of Fredericksburg. Having a business downtown, Butch also became an active member of the Fredericksburg Hospitality Council and Downtown Retail Merchants, Inc.

Butch is survived by his wife of 17 years, Nancy, of Spotsylvania; his dedicated staff of Trolley Tours, whom he considered family; his stepdaughter Carrie Kile, and her husband, Tim, of Stafford; his stepdaughter Kimberly Frisch and her husband, Alex, of San Antonio, Texas; his two grandsons, Mason David Kile and Nathanial George Frisch, who lovingly called him "Archie"; his brother, Robert Wimmer and his wife, Joan, of Quincy, Fla.; his sister, Linda Cywinski, and her husband, David, of Virginia Beach; his sister Ann Matthews and her husband, Robert, of New Johnsonville, Tenn.; and his sister, Rebecca Wimmer of New Johnsonville, Tenn.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 8, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church, 4236 Lee Hill School Drive, with a memorial to follow at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mary Washington Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, Va. 22407.
