UMW has high graduation rate

UMW has high grad rates

Date published: 6/4/2009

The University of Mary Washington has one of the best graduation rates among Southern schools, according to a national survey released yesterday.

In the report’s “very competitive” Southern colleges category, UMW ranks third with a graduation rate of 76 percent. James Madison University in Harrisonburg topped that list with an 81 percent rate.

The American Enterprise Institute study of 1,385 four-year schools found that, on average, 53 percent of freshmen graduate within six years. In Virginia, that number is slightly higher at 56.7 percent.

The University of Richmond, University of Virginia and College of William & Mary were in a “most competitive” category. Respectively, graduation rates for UR, U.Va. and William & Mary were 86 percent, 93 percent and 91 percent.

Virginia Tech, which did not rank in any category, has a 77 percent graduation rate, according to the report.

Glad I could do my part to keep U.Va.'s graduation rate highest among Virginia colleges! Congratulations to all of the members of the class of 2009 in Virginia!
