Stafford supervisor races take shape Date published: 6/11/2009
BY JONAS BEALS One potential candidate is still being verified by the registrar's office, but the four Stafford County supervisors' races are otherwise set. Falmouth is the only district election without an incumbent in the field. Stafford County Republican Committee chairwoman Susan Stimpson will represent that party, and retiree Doug Filler will run as a Democrat. Mark Osborn is campaigning as an independent for the Falmouth seat. He won the same seat as a Republican in 2001, but was defeated in 2005 by George Schwartz, who isn't seeking re-election. In the Hartwood District, incumbent independent Joe Brito faces another former supervisor, Gary Snellings, who held the seat from 2002-06. Snellings won the Republican nomination in a party primary Tuesday. Completing another three-way race, political newcomer Shawn Goss will run as an independent in that district. Aquia District incumbent Paul Milde will likely face two opponents as well. Paul Ortiz and Irene Egan, both independents, have filed to run. Ortiz's paperwork had not been confirmed by the registrar as of yesterday. Laura Sellers, a last-minute Democratic nominee, will face incumbent Republican Mark Dudenhefer for the Garrisonville District seat. Jonas Beals: 540/368-5036
