Mary A. Farmer
Mary Ayers Farmer, 99, of Woodford died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at her home.
Mrs. Farmer moved to Caroline County in 1918 from Stuart, Virginia. She graduated from Mica High School in 1928 and from Mary Washington Teacher's College in 1930.
She taught school in Little Washington in 1931. She married Marion A. Farmer in 1932, and they were the owners and operators of Woodford Store from 1936 until 1966. Mary was a member of Round Oak Baptist Church in Corbin since 1935. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Marion A. Farmer, in 1998.
Survivors include her sister, Ruth Swingle, of Haynesville; her nephews, William Swingle, George Melvin Ayers Jr., John William Ayers, Everett Ayers and Joe Farmer; her nieces, Dot Kovack, Lynda Zubrow-ski and Betty Thurston; and her beloved friend and caregiver of 30 years, Marjorie Kerns.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 5, at Cov-enant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, with the Rev. Randolph M. Newsome officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
