Most local races are unopposed
Few area races contested

While the state overall has an unusually high number of House of Delegates races this year, only one local delegate has opposition from one of the two major parties.

Del. Albert Pollard, D-Lancaster, is being challenged by Republican Catherine Crabill for the Northern Neck seat.

Two other area delegates are opposed by third-party candidates, and the rest have a free ride.

House Speaker Bill Howell, R-Stafford, is again being challenged by Craig Ennis, who is running as an Independent Green candidate. Ennis ran against Howell in 2007, and received 457 votes.

Ennis, employed by New Horizon Electrical, also was a write-in candidate for the 1st Congressional District in 2008. His Web site says he's running against the "Obamanization of Virginia" and the "liberal agenda" on gay marriage, higher taxes, stricter gun laws, redistribution of wealth, foreign oil dependence and other issues.

Del. Ed Scott, R-Madison, also has an independent challenger, Matthew A. Carson.

Neither Del. Bobby Orrock, R-Caroline, nor Del. Mark Cole, R-Spotsylvania, has an opponent. Cole said it's the first time he has run unopposed.

Del. Chris Peace, R-Hanover, (whose district includes part of Caroline County) and Del. Scott Lingamfelter, R-Woodbridge, (whose district includes Fauquier County) also are unchallenged.
