Neuhauser earns state final berth

Orange County resident Whitney Neuhauser reached the final of the Virginia State Golf Association's Women's Amateur Championship with two wins yesterday.

Nuehauser, a rising senior at the University of Virginia, defeated Hunter Ross of Manakin-Sabot in the quarterfinals and Elizabeth Brightwell of Nellysford in the semifinals (both by 2-1 scores)

She will face Oakton's Laura Greenleaf in today's championship match at Danville Golf Club. Greenleaf defeated rising King George High School senior Hannah Pierce 2 and 1 in a quarterfinal yesterday before edging Sara Hurwitch of Potomac Falls on the 19th hole of their semifinal match.

Hurwitch edged Orange's Alexa Boucher 1 up in the quarterfinals.

CYCLING

Nancy Guth of Stafford recently won her fourth straight women's championship at the National 24-Hour Challenge bicycle ride in Middleville, Mich.

Guth broke her own event record by covering 366.4 miles, 17.2 more than she roed in 2007.

Chris Ragsdale of Seattle was the men's champion, riding a record 480.1 miles.

WRESTLING

Antonio Kibler and Levi Englman of Powerhouse Wrestling each finished second in his respective elementary class weight division at last weekend's NHSCA National Open Wrestling Championships in Virginia Beach.

Elementary class teammates Ethyn Yates, Marco Mason and Dell Winters each finished third. Chase Laurita and Devin Sweeney were fourth, and Bryce Sweeney placed eighth. Curtis Harris was third in his middle school division class. All were named All-Americans.
