Elizabeth Smith
Mamie Elizabeth Fawley Smith, 97, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at the Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Thomas J. Smith. They were married on June 10, 1931. She was born in Montgomery County, Md., on Aug. 23, 1911, and was the daughter of Owen Homer and Nannie Bertha Woodward Fawley. During her life, she lived in Lovettsville, Purcellville, Neersville, Fredericksburg, Athens, Tenn., and Delray Beach, Fla., before relocating back to Frederick. Mrs. Smith was a longtime member of the New Jeru-salem Lutheran Church, Lo-vettsville, and enjoyed quilting, reading, needlework, and preparing food for family and friends. She was a farmer's wife and for many years worked as a nurse's aide at Loudoun Memorial Hospital. She is survived by one daughter, Catherine S. Bo-linger and husband Marvin of Delray Beach; two brothers, Owen L. Fawley and wife Betty and Charles R. Fawley and wife Elizabeth, all of Frederick; one sister, Anna-belle Hanshew of Frederick; two grandchildren, Jason Michael Bolinger and wife Jennifer of Nashville, and Elizabeth Renee and husband Dr. Andrew Hochstetler of Ames, Iowa; and four great-grandchildren, Nathan Mi-chael, Emilea Grace Hoch-stetler, Shields Madeline and Jackson Thomas Bolinger. She will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends throughout the country and abroad. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Jimmy Fawley, and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Fawley and Lillian Graham. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, July 13, at the Kee-ney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church St., Frederick, with the funeral starting at 6 p.m. The Rev. Joel Guttormson, pastor of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will be at 11 a.m Tuesday, July 14, in the Union Cemetery, Lovetts-ville. Pallbearers will be Tommy Apperson, Donald Hanshew, Wayne Hanshew, Jerry Brubaker, Larry Fagan and Clarence Tobery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 12942 Lutheran Church Road, Lovettsville, Va. 20180.
