Let's not squander our precious history
I was particularly impressed with three historical pieces that have been published recently in The Free Lance-Star. The July 1 op-ed by Thomas G. Moeller ["Founders pledged lives, fortunes: Would we?"] asks It says that too many Americans seem to have forgotten what the Declaration of Independence is all about and appear all too ready to cede more and more of our personal liberty to our current government. We need to stop this and stand up for our rights, or else what our founders fought for will all be in vain. Marc Leepson's July 3 op-ed ["Old Glory: Of what we so proudly hail"] primarily speaks about our flag and how it was a symbol of revolt against British rule. Post 1-21- 09 and self proclaimed constitutional "experts" come forth distrustful with flawed parallels to 1776. Where were they from 2000-09 when the Constitution was repeately violated, the executive cirumvented the Congress, civil liberties trashed under guise of "homeland security", taxpayer's coyfers stolen by non-bid cronyies debt skyrocketed to $11 Tril. New gov. is legitimate democracy voting fairly. Sore loosers covertly hijacking founding fathers/Declaration is sad - you were the PROBLEM.
