Ramon P. Minx

Ramon Paschal Minx, 79, of South Hill lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at his residence.

Born Jan. 13, 1930, in Punta Gorda, Fla., Mr. Minx married in 1952, and served in the U.S. Army's Medical Service Corps for 23 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1972. He also retired from the Virginia Air Pollution Control Board with 15 years of service.

After his move to South Hill, Mr. Minx volunteered as an instructor for the Virginia Continuing Education Master Gardener program. He enjoyed working in his garden as well as his workshop, where he created rocking horses, furniture and many other projects over the years. He was an active member of La Crosse United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jerry Hester Minx; six children, Pamela Pollard and husband Bruce of Bumpass, Pat Falls and husband Jerry of Woodbridge, Rob Minx and wife Sherri of Falmouth, Tom Minx and wife Lisa of Virginia Beach, Marty Gordon and husband James of Franklin, and Kathy Messina of Apex, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory, followed by visitation. Interment will take place at noon Wednesday, July 29, at Quantico National Cemetery.
