Nurse aides graduate from RCC's program On July 20, students in Rappahannock Community College's Warsaw Campus nurse's aide program graduated. Local residents soon to begin work at area health care facilities are Cheryl Studvent, Caroline; Tommie Cullifer, Colonial Beach; Fallon Akers, Francis Samuels and Ursula Scott, Essex; Bernice Harris, King William; Whitney Ball and Ulylinda Frazier, Lancaster; Leonna Adams, Markia Cuffee and Grecia Medina, Northumberland; and Carolyn Carey, Lacey Edwards, Brittany Hunter, Sharia Smith, JaLeisa Usual, LaNora Usual and Shayla Wright, Westmoreland. The Workforce Investment Act Adult Program sponsored the training of a number of these students, with funding supplied by the Area XIII Bay Consortium Workforce Investment Board through the Virginia Employment Commission Workforce Center. Carmel Christian has new head of school Brent Miller is the new head of school at Carmel Christian Academy in Caroline County, effective Saturday.
The school's founder, Jan Carneal, will step aside but remain on the board. A graduate of Baptist Theological Seminary, the University of Richmond and Collegiate School in Richmond, Miller has been a chaplain, coach and English and history teacher at Fork Union Military Academy for the past four years. He has also been music director at Fork Union Baptist since 2007. An open house to welcome Miller and his wife will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at the school, 9020 Jericho Road in Ruther Glen. FCS holds first benefit golf tourney The first Eagle Golf Classic to raise money for Fredericksburg Christian Schools is Sept. 11 at Fredericksburg Country Club. Registration is open to the first 30 teams. Cost is $75 per person ($300 per team). Format is four-member Captain's Choice. Shotgun start at 9 am. Complimentary continental breakfast, lunch and beverage/refreshment cart provided. Registration deadline is Aug. 14. Master Naturalist training coming up Applications are due Aug. 3 for Master Naturalist Training. Orientation is 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Motts Run Nature Center. After that, class meets on Mondays, Aug. 24-Nov. 30, 7-9:15 p.m.
