Stafford School Board needs proper funding Date published: 7/29/2009
I agree with the belief that teacher salaries are However, two points need to be raised. First, the School Board did not vote on incoming teachers getting the step raise. Second, without adequate funding, the School Board can do little. The supervisors determine how much money the schools get. The School Board presents a budget Be aware that at the end of each fiscal year, any unspent money must be returned to the county. This is because School Boards may not go into the red. Further, money is unspent as experienced teaches are replaced by new teachers, etc. Since FY '04, the county will have kept at least $15,568,969 of unexpended money. While some supervisors claim the schools "spend like drunken sailors," Stafford ranks 104th of 132 districts for school funding in Virginia. Stafford's FY '08 total per-pupil cost of $9,335 is 15.4 percent below Virginia's average of $11,037. Should have read, "get judged because we're associated with these few." I've exceeded my quota for the month. I'm out of here.
Let's not forget the bad teachers that are also a contributor. All the teachers out there know what I am talking about. You work with them as I do. The unprofessional teachers that act more like students than teachers. Ones that show up to school looking like their going to be doing yard work, not teaching. The ones that show videos for the last 2 weeks of school. I (and every other good teacher) get(s) judged by these few. Every profession has bad seeds, our profession is no different!
the students. I'm not saying these people shouldn't be driving luxury cars. These parents definitely have the resources to help their children. Not just financial resources. If a person has a job that can afford them a $50,000 vehicle, they probably have some intelligence. (probably!) If they would spend some time with their child, making them do their work, and helping them, they probably wouldn't be in summer school.
one contributor. But more than that, I think it's a lack of work ethic and effort, which is instilled by the parents. Putting in work to learn math facts isn't fun for children, therefore, they don't want to do it. Unfortunately, many of these children don't have parents that are involved enough to make them learn. You want to see something interesting? Go to a school during summer school, and watch the kids get dropped off or picked up. Check out the BMW's, and other luxury cars dropping off
