I wish I could vote for Paul Ortiz!
I just finished reading the July 15 op-ed by Paul Ortiz, candidate for the Aquia District Supervisor ["Common sense, not cash, should rule BoS"], and my hope and faith in the democratic process was immediately rekindled by the spark of dying embers. I am not a Stafford County voter, but I sure do wish I had never heard of him until now, and therefore know nothing about him except his pledge to not take contributions from the development community, his encouragement of his opponents to come clean to the electorate about the sources of all of their contributions, and his pledge to disclose his Economic Interests Statements on his Web site. How absolutely, astonishingly refreshing in these days of unethical and unabashed politics of money talks or follow-the-money votes. The special interest politics of money is destroying our democracy and representative government at all levels. I thank Mr. Ortiz for giving me hope again, and I wish him much luck. Maybe I can help out at phone banks or pass out pamphlets or something. Brenda King Spotsylvania
My issue with Mr. Ortiz is that he strikes me as disingenuous. Maybe it's just how politics works, but it seems pretty suspicious to batter the incumbent (who is in the development.builder business) for taking money from developers, when he's snapping up thousand dollar checks from defense contractors as a civilian working for DoD.
I also don't like him calling himself an independent when he sought and accepted the endorsement of Democrats.
Feels like he's trying to pull the wool over my eyes.
Amen! I wish I could vote for him, too!!!!!
