Father charged in baby's death Date published: 8/8/2009
BY KEITH EPPS A Stafford County man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his infant son just over a month ago. Jason Wade Andre, 31, was arrested late Thursday after being indicted by a Stafford grand jury this week, Sheriff's spokesman Bill Kennedy said. He is accused of causing the injuries that resulted in the death of his 7-week-old son, who police said died from shaken baby syndrome. Andre is charged with second-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding, child neglect, possessing a firearm as a felon, intent to manufacture marijuana and possession of marijuana. He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond. According to police and court records, a deputy went to 6 Beech Drive in North Stafford in response to a call about a child having difficulty breathing. The deputy performed CPR until rescue workers arrived and took the child to Stafford Hospital Center. He was then flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he died a few days later. An affidavit for a search warrants states that authorities found red stains in the infant's crib when they arrived. When they asked Andre about the stains, he told police that the baby had spit up the red substance earlier while the child's grandmother was watching him. He then told police that the child was put to bed without medical attention being sought, the affidavit states. The father told police that he woke up just before 2 a.m. to feed the baby because he was crying. Doctors at Inova Fairfax determined that the baby's injuries were consistent with shaken baby syndrome. A subsequent search of the home turned up guns and marijuana. Andre has three prior felony convictions and is not allowed to have a gun, court records state. Keith Epps: 540/374-5404
Jason is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Just because he is a felon does not mean that he would harm his child. He has another child with his wife whom he adores. I know Jason and do not believe him capable of the crime in which he has been accused. The baby could have been shaken days before he became symptomatic. There are other adults in this equation. This is a tragic event and he and his family need support. There are very few facts in this article, none that prove Jason’s guilt.
I have met this guy a few times and he doesn't seem like a guy who could do this. I would like to know where the wife and grandmother were.
How come the baby spit up something red when the grandma was there but it doesn't say what happened. That baby could have been shaken hours before the father found him. Just because he is a convicted felon doesn't mean he hurt that baby. They also have another child.
I can't believe it. A felon who doesn't obey the gun laws? We need a law to make felons obey the laws, or we need a law that will only affect the law-abiding, so that the felons will obey the laws. Yeah, that's the ticket.
This kid could have grown up to be another Ludwig Beethoven, Henry Ford, Martin Luther King, or some other great person.
