On Aug. 6, 2009, Mildred Petersen of Hartwood, formerly of Woodbridge, went to her heavenly home in Glory for a sweet reunion with her Savior Jesus and her loving husband, Harry.
She had 92 wonderful years here on earth. Born to Clarence and Florence Osgood on Oct. 10, 1916, in Bangor, Calif., she was the youngest of 10 children.
Married for 64 fun-filled years, Milly married Harry V. Petersen, her handsome, young sailor in 1942. She was a Navy wife for 30 years, who raised five children. In the 1960s, Milly was a bus driver for Prince William County schools, and a school secretary at Dumfries Elementary.
She was a beloved Sunday school teacher for many years at Calvary Baptist Church. She led "Good News Bible Clubs" and held many teen Bible studies in her home.
Milly and Harry loved serving as volunteers at Potomac Hospital. She also volunteered her time weekly at the Woodbridge Nursing Home, leading devotionals, singing hymns and praying with the residents. Her passion in life was telling people about the love of Christ.
She is survived by her children, Greg Petersen and wife Linda, Susan Petersen Hilton and husband Larry, Nancy Petersen Tindall, Jennifer Petersen Baldwin and husband Ray, and Stephen Petersen and wife Kathy; her grandchildren, Erin Petersen Emerson, Kelly and Kasey Hilton, Caleb Chik, Tommy Tindall, and Wesley and Molly Petersen; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She also is also survived by two older sisters, Verla Morris and Marj Morris of Marysville, Calif.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday Aug. 10, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the funeral home. A celebration of life will take place immediately following the funeral at TJ's Catering off U.S. Rt. 1 (454 Cambridge St.), Fredericksburg, with a private burial to take place in Quantico National Cemetery.
