Aubrey R. Johnson

Aubrey Ross Johnson, 87, passed away in Richmond on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, from complications after surgery.

He was a native of Keyser, W.Va. and is survived by his beloved wife of more than 60 years, Barbara; son Jeffrey Johnson and wife Patsy of Fredericksburg; daughter Jill J. Helmus of Richmond; two grandsons, Jeffrey B. Johnson and wife Curtina of Fredericksburg, and Jason B. Johnson and fiancee Jarman R. Fagalde of Richmond; and one great-grandson, J. Benjamin Johnson of Fredericksburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis W. and Maggie S. Johnson of Keyser; sister Esta J. Gittings of Baltimore, Md., and son-in-law Brian C. Helmus of Richmond.

Aubrey served as a dive bomber pilot in the Navy in World War II; was an avid sportsman; and ended his professional career as vice president of merchandising for G.C. Murphy Co., where he worked for more than 42 years, retiring in 1982.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1400 Horsepen Road, Richmond, Va. 23226. He will be interred in Arlington at a later date when he is joined in death by his beloved Barbara.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lakeside Lutheran Church, 2427 Eaton Ferry Road, Littleton, N.C. 27850 or Epiphany Lutheran Church in Richmond, Va.
