The juxtaposition of two stories in The Free Lance-Star on Sept. 2 explains better than anything else why I support President Obama's health care reform. May I suggest that readers place these photos side by side: the face of the angry, older man in the article titled "Health care gets panned" next to the face of the young baby being held by her mother in the article titled "Expanding care for kids"? The older man is protesting that his health care will be rationed and that he "will be sent down the trail to die." The baby seems to have fear in her young eyes, as if sensing that the cancer that felled her sister may next visit her. My heart went out to this young child and her parents. And I would reassure the gentleman Why must the two most vulnerable groups in our country have to worry about their health coverage? Why must the parents of this baby have to hold car washes and other private efforts to raise funds to get a pediatric facility located in this area? The spread of lies to panic the elderly and many other groups is craven to the extreme. The U.S. is the richest, most powerful country in the world. Will we not take care The conservatives want to maintain the status quo at all costs. They "want their old country back." I maintain that health care is a birthright, not a commodity to be traded in a supposedly "free" market based on profit. Both of these citizens must have health care as their right. Please support real health care reform. Dorothy Clear Spotsylvania
We simply disagree. Again, none of us, none of us, will have insurance if the price doubles every six years and insurance companies have to make the profits and pay stockholders, etc. People keep talking about the tax burden our children and grandchildren will have. A $1,000 per month policy will cost a child born today $8,000 per month when they are 18 years old. Think about that Mandrake. When insurance companies started, they took 5%, now it is 43% on average. It is brokern Mandrake, broken.
I have been telling you what my opinion of the public
option is. It IS the camel's nose in the tent. It IS
government run insurance. If there is a public option with
an unlimited amount of money to spend (yes, only limited
by how much taxes they can collect from taxpayers who
are already paying through the nose to every taxing
jurisdiction under the sun)it will put private insurers out of
business leaving the government owning all healthcare.
The "health insurance is a right" crowd will be thrilled!
I am not a religious person and what I am about to say may be very hypocritical. However, a verse that I think is a great verse is "There but for the grace of God (go I)." Again, I know you have worked hard and deserve what you have earned, but never think the status quo we have now is going to continue. It is impossible and breaks the rules of business and math. It will not continue.
Congratulations on having such a good job. I am sure you worked your butt off and are enjoying the fruits of your labor. I feel I have done the same thing in life as have a lot of fortunate people. With this being said, I would ask that you speak with your employer and see what they pay for your health insurance (that is if you are in a private company, not the govt, military) and see if they will provide that same coverage to you when your price doubles or triples (cont)
my employer pays all the premiums. If Obama gets his way, he will tax the heck out of the insurance companies so they cannot compete, they will go bankrupt and we will be forced to be on the "nanny" plan. Additionally, there will be more people unemployed as the insurance companies go down. If there is a problem, then fix THAT problem - don't interfere with me. The government messed up housing, Medicare, Social Security, etc., and I don't want them interfering with MY health care. Period.
