Eugene M. Walsh

Eugene Michael Walsh Sr., 82, of Berryville, formerly of Manassas Park, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at the Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Walsh was born Jan. 24, 1927, in Scranton, Pa., the son of John and Caroline Bohn Walsh. He was retired from the Fairfax County government where he worked as an auto mechanic. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the European Theater., and was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, both in Manassas.

He married Jean Marie O'Boyle Walsh on April 19, 1952, in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Walsh died Dec. 10, 1998.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia J. Smith and her husband, Ken, of Richmond, Mich., and Nancy E. Sawle and her husband, Damian, of Winchester; three sons, Eugene M. Walsh Jr. of Plymouth, Pa., James T. Walsh of Mount Airy, Md., and Paul T. Walsh and his wife, Trish, of Rhoadesville; and two sisters, Carolyn Warner of Montrose, Pa. and Madelyn Walsh of Silver Spring, Md.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Eric A. Beck, Emily N. Smith, Chad M. Hawks, Ashley E. Hawks, Ryan C. Sawle, Lauren M. Sawle, Logan J. Sawle, Gregory E. Volz, Jeffrey M. Walsh, John R. Walsh, Amanda M. Walsh and Tracy L. Walsh; four great-grandchildren, Cody Volz, Dylan Volz, Taylor Walsh and Peyton Walsh; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Three brothers, Robert, Jack, and William Walsh, preceded him in death.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at St. Bridget's Chapel, Berryville, with Father Krempa officiating. Burial will at noon Friday, Sept. 25, in Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle.

Pallbearers will be Eric Beck, Gregory Volz, Chad Hawks, Jeffrey Walsh, John Walsh and William Ferguson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Greenfield of Berryville Reflections Unit Activities Fund, 413 McClellan St., Berryville, Va. 22611.
