Charles W. Roble

Charles William Roble, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009.

Originally from Colonial Beach, Charles worked for the U.S. Naval Proving Ground at Dahlgren until 1967. He married Bertha Evans Lee in 1940 and proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Charles and Bertha moved to Orange, Calif., in 1967. Bertha predeceased him in 1993.

In 1994, he married his new love, Dorothy Jean Schlosser, and they brought happiness to each other for his remaining years. Charles worked several years in the Carpenter Shop at California State University, Fullerton, and he was a skilled "fix-it guy," who was often repairing or building things for friends and family.

Charles enjoyed fishing while still living in Virginia, and he was an ardent baseball fan of the Washington Senators, and then the Anaheim Angels. Bowling was a favorite activity all through his life. For the past 30 years, he was a member of the Club 55 senior bowling league. He bowled with Dorothy three times per week.

Charles was a proud American with strong moral values who was an inspiration and example for his family and friends. We will sorely miss his jokes and stories.

Charles is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his son, Charles Jr.; his two daughters and their spouses, Grace Dirling (Ray) and Gloria Bartoloni (Nicola); his stepson Rick Schlosser, and two stepdaughters, DeAnne Weinzierl (Andrew) and Kay Stuart (Stu). He was extremely proud of his nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to one of the following charities: adopt aplatoon.org, salvationarmy usa.org, bigbrooc.org (Bowling for Kids' Sake), or wel comebackveterans.org.
