Movies still playing in the Fredericksburg area

H "ALL ABOUT STEVE" (PG-13) Sandra Bullock has owned the goofy romantic-comedy genre for years, but flops in this story of a woman who chases a network cameraman (a forgettable Bradley Cooper) hither and yon. The loser Bullock plays is so worthless, the film goes nowhere. Rated PG-13 for sexual content including innuendoes. 87 min. [RA]

HHH "CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 3-D" (PG) With creativity and fun by the boatload, this animated story about a young inventor who makes food fall from the sky is a great movie for kids and parents. Beneath it all are messages about the value of work and affection between a father and son. Rated PG for brief mild language. 81 min. [RF, RA, M]

HH "THE INFORMANT!" (R) Matt Damon does an interesting job making his character--a whistle-blower at a large agribusiness company--a fascinating figure, in a dorky, goofy way. But it's not all a laugh riot, and those who go in with the expectation of a comedy will probably be disappointed as an FBI investigation and the whistle-blower's life unravel by film's end. Rated R for language. 108 min. [RF, RA]

H"LOVE HAPPENS" (PG-13) This tries to be a feel-good romantic tale, but doesn't feel very good. Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Aniston are passable as leads in this tale of a widower who becomes a grief guru. But too much is gloomy--the emotions, the events and the overcast weather in Seattle. You'd rather see a film of what happens next. Rated PG-13 for some language including sexual references. 109 min. [RF, RA]

HH "9" (PG-13) This animated tale of little doll/sack creatures living in a post-apocalyptic world, terrorized by murderous machines, is fascinating to watch. But when you get done, and find out nothing really changes in the tale of the soul vs. the soulless, you wonder whether it was worth the ride. Rated PG-13 for violence and scary images. 79 min. [RA]

HHH "TYLER PERRY'S I CAN DO BAD ALL BY MYSELF" (PG-13) Like his other films, this Tyler Perry drama follows a main character with moral flaws she's forced to face in a crisis. This time out, it's a young nightclub singer (Taraji P. Henson) who has strayed from the family and faith that were mainstays in her youth. Mixed in is a lost soul/handyman (Adam Rodriguez from "C.S.I. Miami") who cares, and solid performances from Gladys Knight and Mary J. Blige. Rated PG-13 for mature thematic material involving a sexual assault on a minor, violence, drug references and smoking. 113 min. [RF, RA, M]
