Mary Katherine Pappandreou Davis

Mary Katherine Pappandreou Davis died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, in Birmingham, Ala.

She was born March 24, 1922, in Fredericksburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Katherine Pappandreou; brothers and sister-in-law Constantinos J. Pappandreou (Leigh) and Angelo J. Pappandreou; and sisters and brothers-in-law Joanna Kouns (William) and Helen Garner (Bernard).

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. James A. Davis Jr.; her children and their spouses, Debby Denson (Bill), Jimmy Davis (Mary Todd), Patsy Dreher (Alan), Kathy Berry (Dewees) of Franklin, Tenn., and John Davis (Eulalie) of Columbus, Miss.; thirteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mary graduated from high school in Fredericksburg and attended Mary Washington College. She completed her nursing education at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.

Mary was a warm, loving and caring lady not only to and for her family, but also for her many friends. She exhibited enthusiasm, joy and energy to all her efforts, both large and small, with family and friends, or when entertaining large groups.

She was a member of Saint Luke's Episcopal Church, serving in the past as a vestry member where she was the first female warden. She was also involved as a member of St. Theresa's Unit as well as many other church activities.

Mary loved to dance and was past member of Gaieties, Ballerinas, and Comida-Encore Dance Clubs. She was a member of the Hermitage Garden Club.

A funeral was held Sept. 16 at Saint Luke's with burial following in Elmwood Cemetery.
