A. W. Patton
Allie W. Patton, 90, of Midland died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at Elk Mount Farm at the side of his beloved wife of 70 years, Phoebe Jones Patton. Mr. Patton was a lifelong Fauquier County resident, accomplished dairy farmer, businessman and pilot. He was also a civil leader as an officer of the Morrisville-Bristerburg Ruritan Club and of the board of directors of the Northern Piedmont Rural Electric Cooperative. Mr. Patton hosted state, national and international visitors for the Fauquier Fall Farm Tours and was a member of the Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Association. In his later years, he was an avid gardener and enjoyed entertaining friends and family at the Patton "Rock" Gardens. Known as Woodrow, he was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Elk Run, the youngest of five children to Mary Louise Kane Patton and Allie W. Patton. The Patton family moved to Elk Mount Farm when he was 2 years old. Mr. Patton was predeceased by his parents and siblings James William Patton, Enever Lucas Patton, Jesse S. Patton and Jane Ethel Patton Finall. In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Patton is survived by two sons, Robert R. Patton of Midland and William C. Patton of Nokesville; four daughters, Ann Patton Garmon of Orlean, Mary Allen Lomax of Catlett, Sally Patton Baffa of Warrenton and Eleanor Patton Goodwin of Fairfax Station; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, as well as many nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at Moser Funeral Home, 233 Broadview Ave., Warrenton. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
