Mary Lou Combs

Mary Lou Spruill Combs, formerly of Stafford County, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, in Williamston, N.C.

Mary Lou was born in Columbia, N.C., on Jan. 3, 1956, to Ruth Craddock Spruill and the late Junior Spruill of Roper, N.C. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Kathy Spruill and Barbara Ann Roscoe, and her dear friend Stewart Jones.

She leaves four daughters, Melissa Sawyer of Pantego, N.C., Amber Giles of Fredericksburg, and Amanda Dean and Brittany Dean, both living at home. Also surviving are four sisters, Debra Council, Betty Shaw, Jean Skittleharpe and Linda Paige; her two brothers, Thomas Spruill and Wes Spruill; and four grandchildren.

Mary will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her great love and joy for her lord and savior, Jesus Christ. During the last months of her life, she was in severe pain, but never once complained and never let anything bring her spirits down.

She didn't want anyone worrying or fussing over her. She always worried more about other people than she did for herself.

A private service was held in North Carolina.
