Redskins-Chiefs preview: The edge

>> REDSKINS RUN OFFENSE VS. CHIEFS DEFENSE

The Redskins managed only 74 rushing yards last week against a Carolina team that was giving up 180 per game. The Chiefs rank 25th against the run (132.8 ypg) in their 3-4 alignment, but Washington's patchwork offensive line is unproven. Former first-rounder DE Glenn Dorsey has yet to meet expectations.

>> REDSKINS PASS OFFENSE VS. CHIEFS DEFENSE

This could look like the second half of a preseason game, and we remember how rough that was on Washington's quarterbacks. With LT Stephon Heyer, RT Mike Williams and RG Will Montgomery starting at those positions for the first time this year, it's tough to see the Redskins thriving. ROLB Tamba Hali is a big-time pass-rushing threat. Kansas City surrendered 250 receiving yards to Dallas' Miles Austin last week.

>> CHIEFS RUN OFFENSE VS. REDSKINS DEFENSE

The Redskins' fifth-ranked defense is the only strong point for either team. DT Kedric Golston was much better against the run last week, and DT Albert Haynesworth was a force. DT Cornelius Griffin's return from an elbow injury should fortify the defensive line. Kansas City has yet to score a rushing touchdown.

>> CHIEFS PASS OFFENSE VS. REDSKINS DEFENSE

Chiefs LT Branden Albert's status is in doubt (ankle), which would improve DE Andre Carter's chances of repeating last week's performance. First-year coach Todd Haley changed Kansas City's wide receivers coach this week because he hasn't been happy with their production. WR Dwayne Bowe is a big receiver who isn't as explosive as, say, Santana Moss, but he's capable of making difficult catches.

FINAL SCORE: REDSKINS 13, CHIEFS 10
