The Spotsylvania County school division recently recognized the success of its students on Standards of Learning tests for the last school year.

Mary Sutherland, director of testing, said it was especially impressive to see the number of schools whose students passed the SOLs in the highest score range, what's referred to as "highest percentage pass advanced."

At Spotswood Elementary, all of the students who took the "Plain English Math" test scored in that range. Plain English Math tests the same skills as the regular math test but is given to students who need some sort of accommodation such as students who are new to the English language or have a disability.

Sutherland also noted that at six of the county's seven middle schools, 100 percent of the students who took the Algebra I and Geometry tests passed them.
