'Dam' issue should have been resolved long ago

I am angered and embarrassed by the members of the Lake of the Woods Association Board, both past and present.

The board has known that the spillway has not met required standards since the Army Corps of Engineers' inspection in March 1979.

As a result, Lake of the Woods members are each facing a $1,200 penalty to fix a problem that has been 30 years in the making.

If our association's interests and revenues were handled more responsibly, they would have covered most, if not all, of our dam upgrades.

Instead, they chose to litigate and postpone the inevitable, while we watched our money being used for remodeling the clubhouse, a new community center, and a new golf course pro shop.

Fiscal responsibility should be of prime concern, especially with Lake of the Woods being of very diverse income levels.

There is no excuse for the board turning its head on such a vital issue. They knew that this would be a project with a cost like none we have ever faced before. Yet they continued to try and litigate the situation away.

All along, they never planned to absorb a blow to our budget if those efforts proved futile, as they did indeed.

I am for improvements, but not by digging any further into our wallets with such carelessness and lack of vision.

Where does it stop? I am seriously contemplating secession from this union. Anyone else care to join?

LOW and LOWER (posted by MGWork , Oct. 23, 2009 2:59 pm)    0 likes
It sounds to me like someone should post a sign at the LOW gate: "What you see, is what you get, plus a few extras. Anyone interested in investing in LOW has one of two choses...Pay us now or later, or leave now or later, if the HOA rules don't suit you and how OTHERS are caused to spend your money." It's really simply. TWO people MINUS TWO people equals zero. and TWO + TWO can be anything you want it to be, as long as you have enough cash on hand to cover yet another and additional $1,200 to CYA. DAM

LOW has plenty of $ (posted by Tamerlane , Oct. 22, 2009 4:45 pm)    0 likes
for the golf course and other amenities, but few for the safety of others whom they may endanger.

I wonder... (posted by navyorchid , Oct. 22, 2009 9:28 am)    0 likes
if anyone has considered what the building of Walmart will do to the state requirements for the small dam in LOW....will that dam need upgrades for the safety of the surrounding community?? Or will this be another issue that won't be considered until it is too late and residents will foot the bill??

Move where there is not an HOA.
