Dorothy Spradlin

Dorothy Faye Daugherty Spradlin passed away at home at the age of 84 on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Spradlin, owner of Electric Motor Repair on Lafayette Boulevard in Fredericksburg until his retirement, and also by her sister Mary, and brothers Doyle, Charles, Doug, Harley and David. She was the oldest of 13 children born to Theodore and Janie Daugherty, all born in LaFollette, Tenn.

She is survived by her three daughters: Sharon Barrett and husband Tom of Richmond, Rita Caruth and husband Greg of Spotsylvania County, and Debbie Rothgeb of Salem and her two children, John and Suzanne. She is also survived by brothers Edmond and Lendon; and sisters Betty Blair, Jolleen Hill and Kathy Kennedy.

Dorothy was born in LaFollette on Aug. 22, 1925. After finishing high school during World War II, Dorothy proudly worked at Oak Ridge, Tenn., for several years as a mail clerk, then married George Spradlin and moved to Dayton, Ohio, where she worked at a fire- extinguisher plant, eventually moving to Brock Road, Spotsylvania, as a stay-at-home wife and mom, where she lived for nearly 60 years.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. with a memorial service to follow Friday, Oct. 23, at Covenant Funeral Service Fredericksburg Chapel for friends and family.

Dorothy will be interred next to her husband, George Spradlin, at the family burial plot in Baker's Forge Cemetery, LaFollette, on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank, Box 1006, Fredericksburg, Va. 22402.
