Alma L. Farmer
Alma L. Farmer, 94, of Cape Coral, Fla. passed away Sunday Oct. 25, 2009, in Cape Coral. Mrs. Farmer was born Jan. 3, 1915, in Washington, D.C., to Jack and Glenna Pace Ellington. She attended Falmouth High School and worked for a number of years at the Fredericksburg Shoe Factory before moving to New Jersey in the mid-1950s where she lived and worked for the next 30 years. She retired at age 70 from Johnson and Johnson Pharmaceuticals and returned to Fredericksburg to be near her family and friends. She enjoyed dancing and traveling, and did so whenever circumstances allowed, including overseas travel. She lived her last few years in Florida with her younger daughter, Jean Ruane. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Nelson of Prosperity, S.C., and Jean Ruane of Cape Coral, Fla.; eight grandchildren: Linda Seay Homan of Virginia, Dreama Brower of Vermont, Vicki Morgan of Florida, Terri Hughes of Florida, Katrina Nelson Kelly of South Carolina, Richard Morgan of Colorado, Charles M. Seay of Virginia, and Eric S. Nelson of Florida; six great-grandchildren, and four great- great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Farmer was predeceased by her son, Kenneth M. Farmer; one sister, Mrs. Louise Pemberton Cohen; and two brothers, Linwood Ellington and Clyde Ellington, all of the Fredericksburg area. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Home, Fredericksburg chapel, 1621 Jefferson Davis Highway. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in the chapel. Condolences may be sent mullinsthompsonfredericks
