You see, I am D.J.'s wife, and I find that reference to my husband as a "would-be abortionist" to be outrageous and offensive.
My husband is a devout Catholic and a good man. He is smart and truly has a desire to help the county he has chosen as his home.
To take an issue that is so very volatile and imply he is something he is not is out of line.
If the editorial writer wishes to disagree with him regarding whether the VRE is good for Spotsylvania County, he has every right. In fact, my husband respects everyone's right to believe what he or she wants.
We have children, one of whom is very small and who might hear this term being used about his father. What right does the editorial writer have to malign someone's character when he doesn't even know him or her?
If he had stuck to the issue without this outrageous character assassination, I would not find myself in the position of writing this letter.
The editorial writer owes him and my family an apology for using this phrase.
