No recount in Spotsy School Board contest

Spotsylvania County School Board candidate Baron P. Braswell, who came up short in Tuesday's election by just 29 votes, says he will not request a recount.

Braswell lost to Battlefield District incumbent Linda Wieland by less than 1 percent of the votes cast.

State law allows for a losing candidate to request a recount if the margin is less than 1 percent; if it's less than half a percent, the state pays for the recount.

Braswell talked with officials at the registrar's office yesterday and said he's "thoroughly convinced" the election results are accurate.

He said the School Board needs to focus on budget issues "instead of worrying about election results.

"That's the reason why I intend to just go ahead and concede the election," he said.

He said he's not sure if he'll run again, but he plans to continue volunteering in the schools.
