BASE SECURITY TIGHTENED
Quantico base heightens security after Fort Hood shootings
Date published: 11/6/2009

By Rusty Dennen

Area military installations have contingency plans for threats from outside and inside their gates.

Quantico Marine Corps Base spokeswoman 1st Lt. Joy Crabaugh said yesterday that officials there were monitoring the situation at Fort Hood. "We are continuing to make certain the appropriate measures are implemented to ensure the safety of our base, Marines and civilian residents and employees," she said.

Crabaugh said the Quantico base was at "threat condition alpha" after the Fort Hood shootings, The Associated Press reported.

Level alpha is one step above normal and is declared when there is a general threat of possible terrorist activity against personnel and facilities, the nature and extent of which are unpredictable.

David San Miguel, spokesman for Fort A.P. Hill in Caroline County, said, "We have a crisis response plan in place" to deal with various threats. He noted that there are only a handful of active military personnel stationed on the base, which hosts tens of thousands of soldiers each year for training.

A spokesman for the Naval Support Facility Dahlgren could not be reached for comment.

don't have a clue about discussing the facts of this event. You engage in a display of your personal bias, but don't analyze the story at hand. Read the facts then go at it, don't blame white America for what this guy did, or christians or rednecks or anyone. THIS US Army MAJOR killed our fellow Americans and he has a story. Get the story, forget about your raunchy opinions.

Well written, irishsignora. I am in complete agreement. Of course, you will still have those that will not agree with ANY reasonable statements.

Your premise is that we need to be on the "look out" for radical muslims. What abt radical, whites, blacks, hispanics, asians? Your statement is closed minded and ingnorant. Anybody, ANYBODY, with a grudge could have perpetrated this crime. It just happened to be a muslim.

A possible point of agreement? (posted by irishsignora , Nov. 6, 2009 4:38 pm)    0 likes
There are extremists who lay claim to every faith, and those who lay claim to none. Jihadis do not exclusively practice Islam, or profess any faith in any deity at all. Acts of terrorism occur when an individual or group decides that all those who disagree with a given ideology are worthy only of death. If you have a person chanting a slogan of any sort and carrying a suspicious parcel, call the cops. Is there anything unreasonable about what I'm proposing?

What do you think?
