Elizabeth Ann Wicks, 74, of Fredericksburg died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Mary Washington Hospital, with her family by her side.
Mrs. Wicks earned her bachelor's degree from Douglass College, in New Brunswick, N.J., and her master's degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz. She began her career as a physical education teacher, and after taking time to raise her family, she returned to education and retired as an elementary school teacher. Betty and her husband resided in New York's Catskill Mountains for 43 years. In 1999, they relocated to Fredericksburg, where she greatly enjoyed her new home and friends. Betty had a wide variety of interests. She was a talented seamstress, led 4-H club activities, and enjoyed crafts, cooking, baking, knitting and travel. She was an active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and also volunteered in the community. Perhaps her greatest happiness came from spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, John R. "Bob" Wicks; three sons, David Wicks of Bangor, Maine, Brian Wicks and his wife, Kate, of Silverdale, Wash., and Kevin Wicks and his wife, Anne, of Horseheads, N.Y.; two daughters, Corinne Wallerstedt and her husband, Chris, of Potomac, Md., and Valerie Mooney and her husband, Rob, of Fort Collins, Colo.; four brothers, Henry Peter of Towaco, N.J., Timothy Peter of Miramar Beach, Fla., Richard Peter of Dingman's Ferry, Pa., and Christian Peter of Essex Fells, N.J.; four sisters, Rosemarie Senatore of Rome, Pa., Shirley Anderson, of West Milford, N.J., Carol LaVine of West Union, W.Va., and Jeanette Peter of Long Valley, N.J.; and 14 grandchildren.

Interment will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in Quantico National Cemetery.
