MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL Ni River 18, Battlefield 12Oct. 26 Deonte Statton was unstoppable and broke a Battlefield record rushing for 220 yards and two touchdowns. Vinnie Mihota and Michael Eady each had nine tackles, but Ni River scored on a deep pass late in the third quarter to win. Battlefield 14, Freedom 0Oct. 29 Deonte Statton rushed for 110 yards, had two touchdowns and broke the school record with nine touchdowns for the season. Vinnie Mihota ran for 105 yards and almost scored on a sweep play. On defense, Jordan Pates and Josh Glover led the team for a combined 18 tackles. Michael Eady had an interception. Battlefield finished the season with a 4-2 record. GIRLS BASKETBALL Thornburg 33, Battlefield 19Oct. 27 Deja Morton, Kayla Coleman, Danielle Martinez, Lizzy Phelps, Emma Grosskopf and Molly Anderson scored for Battlefield. GIRLS SOCCER Battlefield 1, Thornburg 0Oct. 27 Fighting against wet conditions and a determined Thornburg team, Battlefield played its best game of the season. Late in the second half, Katie White took a free kick and sent it perfectly into the box, where forward Shaye Smith drove home a header for the only goal of the game. Shaye Smith, Emilee D'Amour and Kayla Travis led a superb offense. Jordan Bache, Katie White and Baley McGraw dominated the midfield. Anchoring defense were Logan Wolfe, Lauren Mussey, Dolce Lindsey and Anna Jent. Outstanding contributions from Clare Lamph, Kayla Carbee, Hannah Lack and Claire King helped the Warriors stay in control. Amanda DePalma added seven saves in goal and earned her first shutout of the season.
