Stafford candidate is grateful for support

Having received the results of the supervisor election in Stafford's Falmouth District, I wanted to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to all those who worked so hard on my campaign, as well as the many Falmouth residents who put their trust in me by supporting my candidacy with their votes.

This effort has been a long but incredibly rewarding one for me. I can honestly say it was one of the most worthwhile activities I have ever undertaken in my lifetime.

I am particularly proud of the high level of discourse in this campaign. For the most part, both my opponents and I endeavored to provide the voters with an appreciation of our differing views on such prominent issues as the BPOL tax and what its repeal would mean to homeowners and businesses.

As the only candidate who strongly supported implementing this equitable distribution of responsibility for the costs of essential county services, I must now accept the fact that a majority of voters have disagreed with my position. Only the passage of time will demonstrate the validity of our respective arguments.

I would like to extend my particular gratitude to Chairman George Schwartz. Under his direction, the county has made significant progress. I was most fortunate in being able to take advantage of his vast experience during my own campaign.

I must also express my deepest appreciation to the voters of my home precinct of Gayle, in which I received over 50 votes more than either of my two opponents. No one knows you like your nearest neighbors, and I will forever be grateful for all of their support.

I truly wish Susan Stimpson and the other successful candidates all the best in overcoming the many challenges we'll confront in the next several years. Their collaborative efforts will always have my support, as their success will ultimately benefit us all.
