Norma L. Janzen

Norma Lindsay Janzen, 70, of Fredericksburg died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mrs. Janzen lived in the Fredericksburg area for 23 years. She received her nursing degree from Piedmont School of Nursing in Atlanta, Ga., and her Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Maryland, where she was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society.

She served as a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force Nursing Corps, worked as a psychiatric nurse in Texas and New York, and did volunteer nursing work at several locations where her husband was stationed. She received a special recognition award from the New York State Office of Mental Health for outstanding service, dedication and devotion to duty.

She was preceded in death by her only child, Peter Scott Janzen.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Lawrence Janzen; a sister, Yvonne Guinta of Phillipsburg, N.J.; and a stepbrother, John R. Haley of Phillipsburg.

A funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at the funeral home.
