A man charged with driving from Delaware to Stafford County to have sex with his 13-year-old great-niece was arrested Thursday, police said.

George Louis Woodrum, 69, of Dover is charged with soliciting and manufacturing child pornography and two counts of attempted indecent liberties.

He was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

According to Sheriff's spokesman Bill Kennedy, Detective Darryl Wells began investigating Woodrum in early October.

The mother of the 13-year-old, who lives in Stafford, told Wells that Woodrum had been asking the girl inappropriate questions.

With the parent's consent, Kennedy said, Wells assumed the girl's identity in e-mail exchanges with Woodrum. Wells has been investigating Internet predators for years.

Woodrum asked for sexually explicit pictures and asked to have sex with the teen.

Woodrum showed up at the girl's home Thursday, apparently thinking he was going to have sex with her, Kennedy said. Instead, he was greeted by Stafford authorities and taken into custody.

Police are asking that anyone else who has been approached by Woodrum call the Sheriff's Office at 540/658-4400 or Delaware State Police at 302/697-2104.
