Inez Lawson
Inez Eleanor Shirk Lawson, 76, of Fredericksburg passed away peacefully from this earth on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Mary Washington Hospital after a brave fight against lung cancer. She was born in Punxsutawney, Pa., on Dec. 30, 1932. She spent her early childhood years in Punxsutawney before moving to Alexandria. Inez graduated from George Washington High School in Alexandria and then married Harold, whom she met while both were working at the Coca-Cola bottling plant in Alexandria. She was a stay-at-home mom before joining the work force, spending most of her employment time in the home-building industry. She and Harold lived for many years in Lorton , where she was active in the Lorton Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary before moving to Fredericksburg. Inez is survived by her five children, Cynthia Lawson of Alexandria, Evelyn Penn of Fredericksburg, Harold "Randy" Lawson Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Seminole, Fla., Donald Lawson Sr. and his wife, Shelby, of Manassas and Kathleen Schlosser and her husband, David, of Herndon; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind four sisters, Sara Meeks and her husband, John, of Stafford County, Mary Catherine Hamby of California, Nancy Jean Prashaw and her husband, Larry, of New York and Zenda Wesnor of Alabama; a brother, George and his wife, Bonnie, of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harold R. Lawson Sr.; her parents, Nellie and Max Shirk; two brothers, Francis and Kenneth; and one son-in-law, Kenneth Penn. Inez's family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Found & Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A funeral celebrating Inez's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov.18, 2009, at the funeral chapel. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial contributions to the Cancer Center of Virginia or to Hospice Support Care Inc.
