Marie C. Bair

Marie Caroline "Mama Bair" Bair, 90, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, of cancer at the home of her daughter and son-in law Linda and Eric "Ric" Garrett of Fredericksburg.

Marie was born in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of the late Harry and Caroline Sines. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Harry J. Bair; her brothers, Harry "Junior" and Wilbur; and a grandson, Stuart Garrett.

She graduated from Charles E. Ellis School for Girls, and worked for Sears in Philadelphia. Mama Bair was in love with life and was always open to new experiences. These included learning the guitar, camping and traveling. She was part owner of, and worked at, the Happy Clown Restaurant and McDonald's. With her husband, she was involved with owning and racing a trotting horse. Mama Bair was loved by everybody she met.

Once married, she moved to Levittown, Pa., and then to Lake Arrowhead in the Pocono Mountains. While living in the Poconos, she was an avid wildlife watcher and took great delight in feeding all the wild creatures around her house. She then moved to Virginia to live with her daughter and family.

In addition to her daughter and son-law, Marie is survived by her grandchildren Kelly Leva and Shirley, Martha, Carmen and Billy Garrett; her great-granddaughters, Kaitlin and Mackenzie Leva; her sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Schuler and her daughter, Diane and her husband, Herbert "Doc" Thrift, of Okeechobee, Fla.; along with special cousins William Richardson and his wife, Barbara, of Blairsville, Ga., and Nancy Parrino and her husband, George, of North Adams, Mass. She will be missed by many more nieces and nephews and friends who knew her well.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Rosedale Memorial Park in Bensalem, Pa.

Memorial donations may be made to Fredericksburg SPCA, 10819 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, Va. 22408.
