After election, let the economic power roll

Amid the economic despair that has overshadowed our great nation for the last year, the Nov. 3 election should serve as a beacon of hope to not just Virginians but also to Americans as a whole.

Mr. McDonnell, Mr. Bolling, and Mr. Cuccinelli have hopefully seen by now that the easy part is over and now the real work begins.

We can take heed to three words popularized by the Obama administration to help positively motivate lasting change and prosperity for all Virginians: Yes We Can.

Yes, we can create jobs in Virginia by unleashing the power of the free market by lowering taxes on small businesses and all hardworking Virginians.

By letting people and businesses keep more of their own money, we open the door to long-term investment and the spirit of entrepreneurship that made this country great.

Yes, we can reject the premise that protecting the environment warrants adopting steep tax increases and job-killing policies such as cap and trade.

Yes, we can repair our congested roads and reopen our rest areas without a federal "stimulus" by eliminating wasteful government spending.

Yes, we can halt entitlements to illegal immigrants and stop the cycle of entitlement among the impoverished by further assisting the jobless to become more self sufficient.

Yes, we can close budget gaps by streamlining the size of government instead of raising taxes.

If we embrace these basic principles, we sit on a golden opportunity to enact true hope and change, not just in our state, but in the nation as a whole.
