Dazzle Moore
Dazzle Dean Mott Moore, 79, died peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Northern Montana Care Center (NMCC) in Havre, Mont. Dazzle was born Dec. 22, 1929, in Stuttgart, Ark., to James and Willie Mae Suggs Mott. She graduated from Holman High School, where she wrote the lyrics to the school song. She subsequently graduated from Shorter Junior College, Philander Smith College, and University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, graduate school. Dazzle taught elementary school throughout Arkansas and Mississippi for 47 years. She was a member of Union AME Church in Little Rock, Ark., for 40 years. In 2000, she moved to Montana to live with her only daughter and moved to NMCC in 2004 after developing Alzheimer's disease. During the 1950s and 1960s, Dazzle and her siblings were very active in the Civil Rights Movement. Dazzle loved to garden, shop, cook, and attend church. While raising her only child as a single mother, Dazzle enjoyed doing activities with her students and neighborhood children. She was always lending a helping hand, quietly, to someone in need. Dazzle stressed the importance of education to everyone, especially young people. Dazzle is survived by her daughter, Dr. Ethel Moore of Harlem, Mont.; her brother, Vernon Mott and his wife, Juanita, of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Ishla Shabazz and her husband, Gerald, of Oxon Hill, Md., and Linda Wallace and her husband, Melvin, of Capitol Heights, Md.; and aunts, Juanita Curry and Sabron Guiden, both of Little Rock. She will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dazzle was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ralph Mattison; ex-husband Arthur Moore; daughter Rosemary Moore; three sisters; and two brothers, James "Jimmy" Mott Jr. and his wife Marguerite; and Dr. William "Bill" H. Mott. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, where the funeral will begin at 2, with the Rev. Perry A. Smith III, of First Baptist Church North Brentwood, Md., officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dazzle's favorite charities: American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.
