Sylvia D. Golightly
Sylvia Duncan Golightly, 72, of Fredericksburg passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Mary Washington Hospital. Sylvia was born Feb. 18, 1937, in Meadowview to Mollie and Gordon Duncan. She worked for many years as a dedicated secretary, bookkeeper and medical transcriptionist. She was a member of the Smyth Chapel United Methodist Church in Meadowview. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Frank L. Golightly; her children, Monecia Helton Taylor and her husband, George, of Fredericksburg, and William L. Helton Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Pelham, N.C.; her grandchildren: Mollie Rixmann and her husband, Rob, Sarah Phillips and her husband, Matt, Billy Helton, Tommy Naggs, Courtney Scullin and her husband, Andrew, Amanda-Hunter Taylor, Montgomery Taylor and Travis Taylor; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Hunter, Mackenzie, and Aidan. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Owens and her husband, George; special nieces Joan Beauch and her husband, Steve, and Gail Carver and her husband, Donny; as well as many other beloved nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park.
