Insurance companies thrive while poor die

The insurance companies are paying their CEOs huge bonuses with "blood money"--record-breaking earnings, garnered at the expense of the poor, the elderly, the sick, and the dying.

What have we come to as a nation? Greed seems to rule the Republicans in this nation, which was once a haven for those willing to work hard for a better life.

Now the "wing-nut" right-wingers are selling hatred, violence, and greed, using health care as an excuse to do and say unthinkable things.

People who are sick and dying can't work because they don't have health care. Health care has to be one of the building blocks for economic well-being. Jobs, health, and opportunity are interwoven.

Please, put a little human kindness before your aimless re-election desires.

Just don't pay go to jail and you will get your free health care. Three hots and a cot, cable TV, education, job training. What more do you want. Freedom oh hell thats passe, the man is taking that away a bit at a time anyway. See once the larger companies figure out its cheaper to pay a fine than contribute to a health care plan we may all end up in jail. Since the CBO says the govt can't do it cheaper if you can't afford it now you wont be able to afford theirs either. So whats left?

These responses are in the realm of lunacy. It's called "thinning the herd." unless the ones dying are suddenly your own self or family. I remember Rush telling a 20ish caller that he didn't need health insurance. "You're young.! I don't have it. [Yeah!] Wait till you're sick then get it." And the caller agreed. Yeah, again. This insanity is insane. How can this nation with the LOWEST tax rate of the biggies, with 2 cars in each big Fawn Lake garage, argue against nat'l care. It's so mean spirited I puke.

Problem is, dicerops, the govt gets ahold of it & you have no control (posted by tpifos , Nov. 20, 2009 10:41 pm)
over costs or your coverage. They will decide what you can "afford" just like they decide what you will pay in taxes. And they will completely control what kind of care you get. Who will you appeal to? Nobody because they'll be the only game out there. And good luck suing the govt.

dicerops, that's what catastrophic coverage is for (posted by tpifos , Nov. 20, 2009 10:37 pm)
and it's cheap. Raise your deductible to $1K, $3K or even $5K. You get hospitalized? That's all you have to pay. Most people could put that on a credit card & pay it off over time if they had to. How many times have you been hospitalized in the past 5 years, 10 years? more? Save that $ over that amt of time and you're looking at a few dollars a month. People in this country don't save or plan for expenses. That's the next disaster- all the people who never bothered to save for retirement.

Medical funds aren't enough (posted by dicerotops , Nov. 20, 2009 9:22 pm)
I DO have a medical fund that I put pre-tax dollars for ($200 a month). Do you really think though that $2400 a year would cover an unexpected medical problem? Of course not. I live very modestly. I have the cheapest Toyota on the market and don't go out with friends. I stay home and just entertain myself with tv and internet. I work like anyone else, and used to have insurance before the company I worked for cut back on benefits. So hey - here is the real story - most people w/out insurance work hard.
