IT'S NOT OFTEN that one has the opportunity to touch--to hold--history. "World War II, Saving The Reality: A Collector's Vault" provides just that opportunity.

Author Kenneth W. Rendell is director of the Museum of World War II, outside Boston. But before the museum, before the book, he was a collector-dealer of documents and other historical items.

The museum is private and visits must be requested due to the fragile items on display--most in the open. So it makes sense that he has compiled a book that puts these items within everyone's reach.

Read about the war in this handsome, scrapbook-style tome. Slip the many extras out of their pockets--sentimental postcards German soldiers sent home, American "I Want You" posters, letters from politicians and from the home front, and even covert correspondence.

Those at every level of knowledge about World War II will learn from this "exclusive invitation to a personal exploration of life during the war."
