Joette Phillips
Clyo Joette "Joey" Phillips, 69, of Fredericksburg went to the Lord early the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Mary Washington Hospital. Joette was born Aug. 30, 1940, in Fort Benning, Ga., to Joseph Poisso and Virginia Reimer. She spent her childhood in a multitude of locations across the United States as an Army dependent, with her favorite being Alaska. She moved from Longview, Texas, where she had resided for the previous 45 years, to Fredericksburg in December 2008. On Feb. 3, 1959, in Center, Texas, she married Bobby Lee Phillips of Flatwoods, La. She had previously worked as the printing department manager for the Longview Chamber of Commerce and has since been happy as a domestic goddess and volunteer. Joette was a longtime member of First Assembly of God in Longview, Texas. She enjoyed ceramics, traveling with her grandkids, reading, cooking, the outdoors, and gold panning with Donna Gail. She loved her family and friends, the change of trees between the seasons in Virginia, sitting in front of her fireplace, taking drives with her husband, and her garden, especially her mums. Joette will be remembered for her endless strength, compassion and love; she was loved deeply by so many people. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Bobby L. Philips Sr., and great-grandson Devin C. Williams, both of Fredericksburg; his daughter, Cynthia Brown and her husband, Michael, of Stafford County; grandson Bobby Lee Phillips III of Longview, Texas; daughter Dianna Wrinkle of Tyler, Texas; daughter Cathy Riley of Moses Lake, Wash.; son Arthur Russo of Arizona; son Bobby L. Phillips Jr. of Longview; daughter Virginia Martin of Florida; sister Donna Gail Cole of Antioch, Calif.; brother Danny Poisso of Ore City, Texas; sister Josette Douglas of Shreveport, La.; sister Willette Vogel of San Francisco; sister Marlette Sparkman of Los Angeles; and his grandchildren: Christopher, Kenneth and Brittany Williams of Stafford, Steven and Jamie DuBose; Tommy Cain; Jesse, Erwin and Troy Morgan; Vylynda and Sabrina Phillips; Andrea, Therese, Aeon and Jared Russo; Andy, Richie, and Randall Riley; and Cassie Robinson; and all of the others who called her "Grandma": 21 great-grandchildren; hundreds of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family; and her dearest and closest friends, Margie Decco, Cheryl Reid, and Tammy Armstrong. She was predeceased by her mother, Virginia Reimer; father, Joseph Poisso; and grandson, Jesse Morgan. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel.
