Can't we rationally discuss health reform?

Health care reform has been discussed for more than 50 years, yet some people feel we need more time to develop a more desirable plan.

I think a better plan can be developed if all people would share their ideas and share in the development of the plan.

But you cannot force people to cooperate. The people who want more time to discuss the health plan demand an overnight decision for placing up to 40,000 people in harm's way, without any discussion or research.

We go to war and spend all the money needed to support the troops, cost be damned. Yet there is objection to passing a bill that would provide adequate care for the wounded. It is too expensive.

When programs are considered that would benefit millions of citizens, the cry goes up that they are not needed and the resulting deficit is too big.

Yet when a tax cut is being considered that would benefit only a few wealthy citizens and a few businesses, the resulting deficit is not only acceptable, but it is needed.

Mandrake, put on the logic cap. (posted by leclare , Nov. 24, 2009 10:29 am)    0 likes
I have problems with people whose opinions differ from mine? Then why are you writing your opinion which differs from mine and calling me a schmuck and a twit? I comment on SSI Disability, whose regulations I had to know cold, in order to write 500+ decisions, and you comment adversely on those 20 and 30 yr old guys who, for all you know, may well be disabled, and I'm the twit? Let your readers decide who is the know-nothing.

Correction to Mandrake, I think we're cool now (posted by sacha , Nov. 24, 2009 9:01 am)    0 likes
You've agreed that you'll collect Medicare when you are old enough. And by accepting it, you're willing to work with government workers who administer the Medicare health system. I think that's great! I just hope that you realize that through collective programs such as Social Security and Medicare, the elderly don't have to face old age penniless (remember we are NOT a nation of SAVERS). I've yet to meet anyone on either of these programs that would give them up.
