Health care reform has been discussed for more than 50 years, yet some people feel we need more time to develop a more desirable plan.
I think a better plan can be developed if all people would share their ideas and share in the development of the plan.
But you cannot force people to cooperate. The people who want more time to discuss the health plan demand an overnight decision for placing up to 40,000 people in harm's way, without any discussion or research.
We go to war and spend all the money needed to support the troops, cost be damned. Yet there is objection to passing a bill that would provide adequate care for the wounded. It is too expensive.
When programs are considered that would benefit millions of citizens, the cry goes up that they are not needed and the resulting deficit is too big.
Yet when a tax cut is being considered that would benefit only a few wealthy citizens and a few businesses, the resulting deficit is not only acceptable, but it is needed.
